We went to see a baseball game in Beloit, Wisconsin– the Beloit Snappers. Their mascot is a snapping turtle. Now I recall the alligator snapper they had at Brookfield Zoo. He was a little slice of the Paleozoic Era, with these evil jaws that could nip off a hand, no problem. The Snappers’ mascot is Snappy:
I like a good mascot, but I’m not real fond of this one. The head is OK, I guess, though the eyes aren’t expressive enough (the pupils are too big, IMO). But the body’s an afterthought; too small, with tiny little arms and legs. And he seems a little off-balance.
So I decided to sketch Snappy’s nasty cousin. And I colored it for your viewing pleasure:
Now that’s a badass mascot! Beloit Snappers, the ball’s in your court… outfield, whatever.
Yowsa! I’d be scared to meet him in a dark alley…canal, whatever.
Do you have a pencil sketch of your turtle?
